[This seems remarkable, for several reasons, not least the duration of a single voyage. Answers anyone?]
1819 - 1830 Corfu, via Malta
SM 29/7/1776: London 25 July. Extract from a letter from Captain John Richards of the Lisbon packet, arrived at Falmouth from Lisbon, to the Post Masters General, dated Falmouth July 20th. " My Lords, on Saturday June 15th, I received two mails for the Duke of York packet and sailed for Lisbon in company with the Anna Teresa and Eagle packets.
Tuesday June 25th, arrived Lisbon with the Eagle packet in company and off the Bar saw a fleet of French men of war ...
O'Byrne: [Re: Lt. W. H. Symons] - In 1830, he was sent with the mails from Falmouth to Corfu - the first steam-trip of the kind that was ever performed - and so satisfactory was the report made by him to the Admiralty on his return, that he was again ordered to the Mediterranean, whence he ultimately brought home Sir John Malcolm and the first overland India mail. In May 1834, Mr. Symons fitted out and manned the Spitfire steamer for the officer appointed to her, who was at the time absent from England. He made one voyage in her to Corfu with mails; and was then, In Sept. 1834 placed on half-pay. He has not been since afloat. His promotion [to Commander] took place 28 March 1842.
FP 25/8/1832: Packets arrived, the Alban, ex Mediterranean, Dep. Malta 28/7, Gib 9/8, Cadiz 10/8, Oporto 15/8. The Alban steamer has proceeded to Woolwich to be repaired.

FP 12/8/1837: The Secretary to the Post-Office, w.e.f. September 1837, will send the mails by hired steamer every Monday from Falmouth - Gibraltar, from thence fortnightly to Malta, Greece, Ionian Islands, Egypt and East India on H.M.Steam packets employed in the Mediterranean.
FP 23/4/1842: "Advertisement" for Great Liverpool steamer, to depart Southampton 1/4/42 for Alexandria with (Levant & India) mails from Falmouth 2/4. With sailings every ten days from Malta, sailings to Naples, Athens, Constantinople and on the 5th and 15th monthly, sailings from Malta to the Ionian Islands and Patras.
