Subject: William Dockwra, Secretary of the Board of proprietors of East Jersey
Can anyone advise me, is the William Dockwra referred to in the history of Dunellen the same, or related to William Dockwra who, in 1680, invented the Penny Post in London?
You may see why I am interested from my page at http://www.falmouth.packet.archives.dial.pipex.com/id141.htm
Hoping you can help, and thank you for your time.
A. Andrew, I am not aware of any commonality between the two names. That certainly doesn't mean it does not exist. After reading your website text, it lends itself to some connection. The historical text from our website appeared in a home town publication celebrating our borough's centennial. I do not know the author or the sources for his/her material.
At this time I cannot supply any other authority. We are hoping to get our town historian involved with placing his materials on our website. When that begins (please continue to visit our website.)
I would recommend that you contact us again so that we can provide you with contact information. I would provide it now, but I do not know the historian's name or address.
Please check back in a few months.
