The Time Ball Sub-Committee reported that the mechanism would be in working order before or on June 21st., and it was thought advisable to drop the ball for the first time on Jubilee Day [Anniversary to celebrate Queen Victoria's 60 years' reign]. Mr. Bowles mentioned that Lieut. Heathcote, of the Coastguard, had intimated that the mechanism was quite satisfactory. and that the ball would be dropped each day at one o'clock. It would be raised every day at five minutes to one by a service man, but in the event of the look out man being called away due notice would be given to the Chamber.
